About Our Program

At Daesyn, we believe that temperament starts in the womb. No amount of training will ever overcome faulty temperament passed on through generations; and as such, our breeding dogs will always be of stable, confident and friendly nature, free of sound sensitivities, and free of any aggression. They should be easy to live with, easy to travel with, and comfortable in new environments. They should have good work ethics, handler focused, and enjoy working with their people.

The Irish Setter breed standard calls for dogs that are never fearful, shy, or aggressive; the rollicking temperament is a hallmark for the breed.

We strongly believe in extensive health testing to ensure we are producing healthy, sound dogs. When testing a dog, we utilize a genetic health panel from Paw Print Genetics (PPG), and both a Thyroid blood test and X-rays of hips and elbows, which are then read and scored by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA). Every one of our breeding dogs are CHIC certified and are health tested to be free of the following before a breeding is ever considered:

Hip dysplasia (OFA), Elbow dysplasia (OFA), Thyroid disease (OFA), Degenerative Myelopathy (PPG), Globoid Cell Leukodystrophy (Irish Setter Type) (PPG), Leukocyte Adhesion Deficiency, Type I (PPG), Progressive Retinal Atrophy (Irish Setter Type) (PPG), Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Rod-Cone Dysplasia 4 (PPG), Von Willebrand Disease I (PPG).

If a dog is genetically tested and comes back as a carrier, he or she will only be bred to genetically tested clear dogs. This ensures that no puppy will be affected by the genetic disease. Our breeding dogs are also heavily monitored for untestable diseases, such as epilepsy.

How We Raise Our Litters

We utilize Puppy Culture, Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), and Early Scent Introduction (ESI) programs for our litters. These programs were created to nurture a stable, engaged, and trainable partner in each puppy from birth.

The Puppy Culture protocol focuses on early socialization, using desensitization methods, exposure, and positive reinforcement based foundation training. This promotes stability, confidence, and creates a puppy that wants to engage with its handler and environment.

Early Neurological Stimulation involves handling exercises that have been proven to improve neurological function and stress tolerance. Early Scent Introduction introduces puppies to various scents, which is said to improve scent recognition throughout their life. This aids in many potential skills such as tracking, hunting, medical alerts, or scent work sports. Both of these programs are done relatively during the same developmental period.

When our puppies are ready to join their new homes at 10 weeks old, they have already received foundational training in house and crate manners, have been introduced to the clicker for positive reinforcement training, and have undergone extensive socialization. Our puppies are raised indoors with us, and they are exposed to a variety of animals, experiences/places, and interactions with different people.

We use an extensive temperament evaluation for each puppy, incorporating both Avidog testing and Volhard testing. These assessments focus on understanding each puppy's individual temperament, such as sociability, confidence, and adaptability. Avidog testing allows us to observe behaviors related to social attraction, following, and genetic instinct such as retrieving; while Volhard testing shows us responsiveness to handling, independence, and environmental sensitivities. These test results, in combination with behavior observed throughout their time with us, helps us decide which puppy is the best fit for your home.

We also do structural evaluations overseen by outside experts in the dog show world, and mentors. The outside evaluator helps ensure that the puppies are being evaluated fairly, with no bias. This evaluation is to judge their conformation against the breed standard to determine the potential for success in conformation shows or other competitive events.

Combining the results from temperament testing and structural evaluations, along with what we’ve learned from daily interactions and observations, we carefully match each puppy to a family on our approved wait list. Puppy selections are typically finalized between 8 and 9 weeks of age. This process is to make sure that each home is getting their best fit- wether they’re only looking for an adventure buddy or have performance sport goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do your puppies cost?

Our puppies are priced at $2500 each, with an $800 deposit required, which goes towards the final purchase price. Please note that pricing is subject to change based on various factors, but we will always inform potential puppy buyers before committing to a litter. Price does not vary based on gender, any potential markings, or registration type.

What do your puppies come with?

Included with each puppy are their first set of vaccinations, a microchip, AKC registration, 30 days Trupanion insurance, and a go-home bag including a detailed binder. All puppies will be sold under AKC Limited registration except for puppies placed on co ownership, and all puppies will be accompanied by a contract.

Do your puppies have a health guarantee?

Yes! We provide a 2 year guarantee on hips and elbows, as well as a lifetime genetic guarantee against all testable disorders. You can find more information regarding this in our contract, which we will happily provide upon request to anyone considering a puppy from us.

What pick puppy am I getting?

We don't believe in placing puppies with their new owners based on orders of deposits - rather, we take the temperament testing results, what we have learned about each puppy with us, and what traits the new owners have asked for; and match each puppy into their home. No home is lesser than another based on order of deposits, and this helps ensure that everyone gets the puppy suited to their lifestyle best!
